Hi! I’m Tetsuo, the creator and editor of Japan Food and Travel.

I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. I also spent several years studying in Australia, where I experienced life outside Japan and met people from many different backgrounds.

Later, I made many international friends at university. Through conversations with them, I realized that many things Japanese people take for granted can be confusing, surprising, or difficult to understand for first-time visitors.

That experience inspired me to create Japan Food and Travel.

On this site, I share practical information about traveling in Japan, including transportation, food and restaurants, money and payments, internet access, Japanese culture and etiquette, sightseeing, and everyday travel tips.

My goal is to explain Japan from a local Japanese perspective while keeping the information simple and easy to understand for international travelers.

I also try to include small but important details that may not always be obvious to visitors, such as how to use restaurant ticket machines, what to do when coin lockers are full, when cash may still be necessary, and how to behave on public transportation.

For information that may change over time, such as transportation, government procedures, payments, internet services, and travel rules, I check official and reliable sources whenever possible.

I also review and update articles when important information changes.
